Our Weekend Rewinded

Saturday Carson went out on the boat for the first time and he LOVED it! He did awesome in his life jacket, loved watching the boys wake board and even got a good boat nap snuggled up with Momma. This soon will be a weekend ritual...

And then he enjoyed his first ever ball pit and by far maybe one the the best and inexpensive toys ever...
Sunday we hosted our Play Group Easter party. It was a sunny (and quite warm) and beautiful day to be outside. The babies played and found some eggs while all the parents got to hang out and catch up. All in all a great time!

Spring Gardening

Carson did his first spring planting today, or well...this is what he did to help Momma

Sat patiently watching and chewed on his very own shovel, which was pretty exciting!

He was very interesting looking and touching the flowers once they were all in.  Pretty sure once he is mobile, nothing living stands a chance in our backyard of not getting picked!

Best garden helper I have had and he is super cute while working too!

Happy Spring!

More Beets Please

Carson had his first beets today and not a grimace, just pure chow down from him...which got me thinking...do I even like beets?

So yesterday I came home from the grocery store bags full- sweet potatoes, apples, mangoes, chicken, pears, blueberries, plums, avocados, and BEETS. And I might add this was all for Carson, yes the child eats a lot! So last night I made a new puree- sweet potato, beets and apple and as I was cooking it I told Mikey, "I don't think I like beets, well actually I don't think I have ever even tried a beet." Then it began this whole conversation..."How do you eat a beet? Raw? Cooked? How do you cook it? I think I have seen beets at a salad bar before!" Then he proceeds to tell me, "I ate beets growing up, they are good." And I am a little surprised, how did I not know I married a beet-eating man? But, it got me thinking...if someone asked "Do you like beets?" I would probably respond "no", but the reality is I don't ever recall trying a beet (till today), so how do I know....

Then I started really thinking...how many things in life have I decided I like/don't like without really knowing whether I really do or not. And how many things have I passed up trying because I assume I wouldn't like them.  That's the true difference between a baby and an adult- a baby will try everything, and without hesitation, because everything is new and a first for them.  Whereas we as adults have decided either through bad experience, culture, peer pressure, or example of others what we do/don't like and what we are willing/not willing to try.

How many new things has my little guy tried in the short 7 1/2 months of his life...monthly, weekly, and almost daily he embraces the chance to try something new. And nothing makes this momma prouder than seeing the look on his face when he accomplishes a new skill that once seemed so out of reach for him.

How many new things can I say I have tried in the past week or year even? And how often do we approach new things with negativity and apprehension vs. positivity and excitement. Although new foods and life experiences often seem daunting at first, they often surprise us with how much we end up liking them.

So today Carson and I both had our first beets... and they received two thumbs up. I am so grateful for my baby who loves everything edible thus far.

I do hope I can teach Carson through life to embrace new things and give them a try before deciding his true preference.  More than anything I hope to have a son that sees life for the taking and puts himself out there, not hindered by fear of the unknown...and who knows maybe he will always ask
"More beets please!"
